Nicole Patrice & The Exes is a femme-led funk-rock band born on the South Side of Chicago and driven by a collective of musicians dedicated to reviving and reimagining the unapologetic power of 1970s funk for a new era. Fronted by vocalist, composer, and bilingual performer Nicole Patrice, the band blends raw feminine fire with modern alt-rock grit, deep-pocket grooves, and the kind of sonic attitude that can only come from Chicago. Formed in 2025 by Nicole and drummer Eric Johnson, the band began as a shared obsession with the forgotten lineage of Black women in funk — particularly the ferocity of Betty Davis — and the desire to bring that spirit into a future-funk sound that is both primal and innovative. What started as late-night talks about rebellion and musical history transformed into a project rooted in original songwriting, emotional truth, and high-voltage live performance.
